It is important that the Camp Flintlock staff maintain good order and discipline. Top objectives are safety and a positive atmosphere for learning. The expectations listed below enable participants in the program to have a safe, enjoyable experience.

 

Behavior is expected to be consistent with the following:

1. Use appropriate language at all times.

2. Cooperate with staff and follow directions.

3. Respect equipment, facilities, other campers, staff, & their self.

4. Maintain a positive attitude.

5. Stay in program areas - running away is not acceptable.

 

Camp Flintlock does not condone and will not permit:

1. Corporal punishment.

2. Ridiculing, threatening or using an inappropriately loud voice.

3. Leaving children unsupervised

4. Use of profanity

 

Discipline Policy

1.      If a camper is unable to comply with the behavior expectations then they will be redirected.

2.      If, after being redirected, a camper continues to misbehave then they will be put in time out.

3.      If a camper still continues to misbehave then they will be required to dig up a tree stump selected by the director or assistant director.

4.      Behaviors that may result in immediate stump digging include but are not limited to:

-          Any inappropriate language (crap, sucks, and worse).

-          Play fighting.

-          Pretending to threaten others with sharp objects, fire, etc.

5.      Repeat offenders are required to dig up bigger stumps or may be sent home.

6.      Behaviors that may result in immediate dismissal include but are not limited to:

-          Any action that could threaten or pose a direct threat to the physical/emotional safety of the camper, other campers or staff.

-          Fighting.

-          Vandalism or destruction of Camp Flintlock property or property of others.

-          Sexual misconduct.

-          Possession of or use of alcohol or controlled substances unless under the prescription of a doctor.

 

 

 

 

-          - Be sure to plan ahead & write a letter or post card to your camper, as mail is one of the highlights of the day. Please do not emphasize how much you miss them. Instead, tell them how proud you are of them. Please do not send any food or candy or musical cards. We do not deliver Email or fax messages, except in case of emergencies.

-          - Mark all personal belongings with camper name. Camp Flintlock (C.F.) will not be responsible for any lost or damaged belongings.

-          - Pack all items, except money & prescriptions medication, into one (1) of their pillowcases.

-          - If your camper needs to bring a prescription medication then be sure to pack an eight (8) day supply in the original container. If your camper is attending two weeks then double the amount.

-          - If your camper plays the fife, drum, violin, viola, tin whistle, jaw harp or bagpipes then we strongly encourage them to bring their instruments. C.F. can ensure a safe place for them & music is another highlight. If they do not have their own drumsticks, fife, tin whistle or jaw harp & they are interested in learning how to play then they may purchase professional or student quality ones from the C.F. store.

-          - Read & discuss the expectations of behavior (see separate document) with your camper.

-          - Plan to enjoy your time apart from your camper!

 

Upon arrival to our headquarters (this is not the actual camp site), add your campers name to the check-in clipboard. One of our employees will be greeting people with it. Campers will be checked-in from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on a first-come, first serve basis. We do not encourage anyone to arrive any earlier than 3:30 p.m. If your campers scheduled time proves to be a hardship for your family then please contact us prior to that day & we can try to accommodate your wishes.

 

During Check-in:

-          Campers change into the C.F. Colonial-American clothing.

-          Campers are given a colored kerchief/bandana to wear & keep. It corresponds with the team they have been assigned to.

-          A number is assigned to each camper & a haversack (bag) containing a tin plate & a tin cup is provided. All three items will have the corresponding number on them. Note: Campers may be charged for excessive damage to clothing & equipment.

-          Campers pillowcases are checked.

-          Guardians discuss the following during check-in:

1.      Emergency contact information.

2.      Medications & health concerns (if any).

3.      Authorization for your camper to purchase/not purchase knives or tomahawks from the camp store.

4.      Optional purchase of a C.F. Photo Package. This is a set of approximately 10 photos which will be mailed out on or before September 1st. & costs $25.

5.      Optional C.F. Camp Store Money. All camper money is checked in & held by C.F. directors. C.F. ensures its safety & the return of any unspent money during checkout. A running receipt of all their purchases will be kept during their stay. Another money option is to establish a credit line. This must be paid in full by checkout.

 

After Check-in:

-          Parents depart.

-          Campers are given a brief orientation & then shuttled to the campsite (approx. one mile away), along with the staff members. Families may visit the camp site on the day of checkout.

Checkout is held from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. on a first-come, first serve basis after campers are shuttled from the camp site (approx. one mile away) by C.F. staff. If your camper's scheduled time proves to be a hardship for your family then please contact us prior to that day & we can try to accommodate your wishes.

 

During Checkout:

-          - Campers receive an informal report card & guardians receive a brief account of their campers stay at C.F. (with an emphasis on character).

-          - Medication (if any) will be returned.

-          - Campers receive back their crafts which may have been taken care of by C.F. directors.

-          - All monies will be settled (store, photo package, damages, etc.).

-          - Campers return their C.F. equipment & clothing, with the exception of kerchiefs (these they may keep).

 

After Checkout:

Campers, along with their families, are welcome to visit the camp site & the camp store.

 

It is not necessary to buy lots of new items to take to C.F. Old sheets, towels & good fitting old leather boots or shoes (from places like Good Will) work great! We encourage you to save yourselves the expense & hassle. If your camper has any colonial style clothing then they are welcome to bring it with them. All of the campers belongings should be packed into one of the three (3) pillowcases that they bring. Please mark all camper items with the campers name. C.F. will not be responsible for any damaged or lost personal items.

 

All Campers Should Bring:

1 Cotton Sheet (unfitted), solid or striped only. Does not matter what size.

3 Pillow Cases, solid or striped only (1 for packing, 1 for a makeshift pillow & 1 for dirty clothes).

1 Bath Towel, solid or striped only.

2 Wash Clothes, solid or striped only.

1 Soap Bar, in a Ziploc bag.

1 Small Shampoo.

Hair Brush or comb if needed.

1 Toothbrush & Toothpaste.

1 Antiperspirant/deodorant (if needed).

1 Small Flashlight with 1set of new batteries inside.

1 extra set of new batteries.

1 Non-aerosol Bug Repellant.

1 Sunscreen Lotion, if desired.

1Pair of Plain Leather Shoes.

1 Pocketsize Rain Poncho.

1 Handkerchief.

Spending Money, $30-$100 is recommended.

1 King James Version of the Bible.

Stamps, Stationary & Pencil, in Ziploc bag.

 

All Male Campers Should Bring:

2-4 Pairs Long Pants, 50% or more of cotton.

1 Belt.

3-5 Pairs Plain Socks, 50% or more of cotton.

1-2 Pair Wool Socks*.

6 Pair Underwear.

2-6 Undershirts, if desired.

C.F. daily provides a clean Colonial-American shirt.

- Wear plain shoes or sandals of some kind.

- Do not wear flipflops, crocs, or sneakers.

- Do not bring clothes with a camo print.

- Do not bring shorts.

All Female Campers Should Bring:

1 Plain Sweater, opening in the front, 50% or more of cotton or wool.

3-5 Pairs Plain Knee High Socks, 50% or more of cotton.

1-2 Pairs Wool Socks*.

1 Plain Lightweight Bathrobe, knee length.

6 Pairs Plain Underwear.

2-6 Plain Bras, if needed.

Hair Bands & Barrettes, if needed.

Feminine Hygiene Products, if needed.

Hair conditioner, if desired.

1 Small Stuffed Toy Animal, if desired.

C.F. daily provides a clean Colonial-American shift (nightgown-like undergarment) & petticoat (skirt). Every other day, C.F. provides a clean pinafore (apron).

- Wear plain shoes or sandals of some kind.

- Do not wear flipflops, crocs, or sneakers.

- Do not bring clothes with a camo print.

- Do not bring shorts.

* Wool socks will keep campers warm during those occasional damp & cool summer evenings or mornings (even if the socks get wet!). They also work great to protect feet against blisters & fatigue.

If camper isstaying two weeks, thier pesonal clothing will be laundered over the weekend.
