Camp Flintlock Joins Johnston County's America 250 Celebration

This past weekend, Camp Flintlock was honored to participate in Johnston County's America 250 celebration at Johnston Community College in Four Oaks, joining communities across the nation as America prepares to commemorate the 250th anniversary of its founding.

The community fair transported visitors back to the Colonial era with a full day of living history, including cannon firings, carriage rides, crafts, food vendors, an art and photography exhibit, and performances of the Broadway musical 1776, bringing the story of America's founding to life on stage.

Camp Flintlock was proud to be part of the living history encampment, where visitors tried their hand at Quill & Ink writing, tested their aim with colonial axe throwing, experienced our cannon demonstration, and enjoyed performances by our Fife & Drum Corps throughout the day.

Perhaps the best part of the day was watching history come alive through hands-on experiences. Children carefully practiced writing with feather quills, families gathered to watch demonstrations, and visitors of all ages discovered that history isn't just something you read about—it's something you can experience.

As America approaches its 250th birthday in 2026, events like these remind us that the Revolutionary era wasn't only shaped by famous battles and documents. It was also shaped by everyday people learning skills, sharing stories, making music, and building communities.

Camp Flintlock is proud to be part of North Carolina's America 250 celebrations and looks forward to continuing to bring history to life through field trips, summer camps, public events, and living history programs throughout this historic anniversary year.
